This post is a tribute to an INCREDIBLE piece of art that I just discovered on YouTube.
Without any exaggeration, it the most brilliantly written, acted and produced video by vegan activists I have ever seen.
The short film is from 2017. After seven years of being a vegan, I can’t freaking believe that I haven’t seen it earlier!
I completely agree with these commenters:
Here it is👇
(NOTE: The video is not graphic, but contains conversations on sexual violence.)
Important remarks
The short film isn’t about comparing sexual violence with consuming animal products, but about the rhetoric and argumentation used to defend these acts.
The film’s message:
The film skillfully shows how vegans feel in a world where the cruel realities of the animal industry are conveniently overlooked by many.
It showcases the repetitive nature of the justifications and demeaning remarks that many vegans encounter on a regular basis — and exposes the absurdity of the arguments that non-vegans use to rationalize their consumption choices.
Why sexual violence:
For any reasonable viewer, it should be clear that the film’s creators did not intend to trivialize sexual violence. On the contrary, they deliberately chose a shocking form of wrongdoing, one where most people would unanimously agree on its reprehensibility.
They must have carefully considered this choice. In a society that has become so numb and desensitized, where so much suffering is shrugged off and ignored, it is certainly not easy to select an example that truly shakes people up.
It should be highlighted that there is also a huge amount of sexual violence occurring in the animal industry. In fact, the entire animal industry is built on the exploitation of the female reproductive system.
“But I care more about humans than (other) animals”
For many people, the well-being of their fellow humans takes precedence over that of “livestock.” And that is understandable.
However, this is not an argument against going vegan, as animal products are in no way necessary to live a healthy life. In other words: we don't have to choose between human and animal suffering; we can easily decide against both.
In fact, a vegan lifestyle not only avoids unnecessary violence against animals, prevents many forms of environmental destruction and improves your own health, but also protects your fellow human beings from misery and exploitation.
How the animal industry harms people:
The animal industry causes human suffering through air pollution, it’s huge impact on climate change, the displacement of indigenous people through land grabbing and rainforest destruction, horrific working conditions, and by being a major driver of world hunger.
