It's truly saddening to see something so barbaric happening amidst us at this day and age. I may not see eye-to-eye with a vegan movement, but I also think it's too inhumane for the animal that'd prefer to "get it over with" instead of being mangled around.
Since you feel compassion for the animal, you probably have a lot more in common with the vegan movement than you might think. :) Basically, we just want animals to be treated with dignity and to not have to suffer. In that sense, you could say that most humans actually already share vegan values.
A lot of the atrocities in factory farming are hidden from the public, which is why veganism can seem extreme. But Pala had a great post here about something that happens regularly in factory farming that is every bit as cruel as this ritual in Khokan: https://veganhorizon.substack.com/p/a-dark-chapter-of-humanity-called.
Hi kp, thanks a lot for stopping by and leaving a comment, I really appreciate it.
I totally agree with Louise that you probably have a lot more in common with the vegan movement than you think. I can really recommend this documentary, which will help you understand that cruelties such as those seen in the Deopokhari festival are ubiquitous in modern livestock farming: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gqwpfEcBjI
Please be honest with yourself and don't turn a blind eye. 💛 As Emma Goldman very aptly said, ''The most violent element in society is ignorance."
Have a wonderful day and thanks a lot for your time!
