Awesome! I wish I wrote this, haha! I use AI a lot in my daily life, and yet I am still most excited for this. Not just to hear what we know animals are already saying: "stop," but to see how we could communicate to collaborate. Would they ask for sanctuary?
I can't agree with you on this one, Palo. While AI may have it's benefits, the bigger picture is extremely harmful. It's a technology that even it's developers are fearful of. And it's unnecessary. To understand animal communication takes perception and opening one's heart. Then it's so very clear what they are thinking and feeling.
Hey Linda, thanks so much for your honest feedback - I really appreciate it. I totally get where you’re coming from, and I share your concerns about AI too.
That said, AI is definitely going to keep evolving, and considering all the cruelty and environmental damage caused by animal agriculture, I think it’s worth at least exploring how AI could help in this area.
Of course, it would be great if people could open their hearts and become aware without any tech help - but sadly, for many, that’s just not enough. I believe that if such 'translation technology' were possible, it could create viral effects and really make a lot of people think. But maybe I’m wrong. Either way, I always value your opinion a lot! Thank you so much for stopping by.
This is a beautifully written essay, and the implications of what you wrote are staggering. The idea that AI could give animals a voice we can understand and potentially accelerate a compassionate awakening is deeply moving. Even for those of us who care about animal welfare, I hope it will deepen our compassion and passion for animals as well.
AI has helped to identify names of elephants, and use those names to call that animal (played over a speaker)
